Ghosts and Spirits

I took a long time deciding how to start this page. I guess, of all the mysteries in this website, people who believe in ghosts are the most likely to be mocked. How ridiculous. Modern science has no place for such fantasies.

I believe in ghosts because I believe in life after death, or an existence after death. And I believe that sometimes people who have died come back in spirit form. Or sometimes a clairvoyant can communicate with someone who has died.

Among the poltergeists that visited Matthew Manning’s family in the 1970s, were also cases of automatic writing and drawing. It seemed that these people who had died could communicate with Matthew. He wrote about the experiences in his book, The Link.

Michael Bentine was one of the original “Goons” on BBC Radio all those years ago. He became a TV “personality”. But he was also very much into spiritualism and wrote a book, The Door Marked Summer, much of which is quite frightening and is a warning not to dabble in the occult if you don’t know what you are doing. Bentine was Peruvian. Now, unless he completely made up that book, then there is plenty of evidence of spirits, both good and bad. After all, the Bible speaks of spirits, angels, many times.

A famous ghost story: I was fascinated by the story of Flight 401, (the link is to Wikipedia) a passenger jet which crashed in the Everglades in Miami in 1972. It was totally dark so no one was aware of the impending collision with the ground. Then for several months after the accident, some members of the crew who had died appeared in ghostly form, often in the same aircraft type (Tristar). It is easy to dismiss this as all made-up but I am no sceptic. Life is more interesting believing that ghosts really exist.

Correfoc in Catalunya. I doubt whether Health and Safety would allow it in the UK! One of my last B&W photos on film before I switched to digital photography.
